About Lisa

LisaThe youngest child of Bob and Marie Hoebee, Lisa grew up in Freehold, NJ. Throughout her life, Lisa was a passionate student and educator and she held a bachelor's degree in psychology and English from Rutgers University where she met her husband, Steve Hickson.

After Lisa and Steve moved to Boston in 1996, Lisa earned a master's degree in education from Cambridge College and worked as an adjunct professor there and at Bay State College. Upon her return to the New York-New Jersey area in 2001, Lisa joined the staff of the Jersey City Medical Center and worked as the coordinator of the outpatient mental health clinic until 2003. Lisa was establishing a private psychotherapy practice in South Orange, NJ, at the time of her breast cancer diagnosis in August 2004.

Lisa fought her illness with incredible courage and was an inspiration to everyone around her. After a difficult battle, Lisa died in April 2006. While breast cancer may have stolen Lisa's life, it will never end her life's work or diminish her powerful fighting spirit that lives with us every day. During her illness, Pathways in Summit, NJ provided an invaluable resource via support groups, cancer resources and activities for women and their families battling cancer. Pathways is a wonderful organization and Lisa's appreciation and support of Pathways continues with The Lisa Hickson Memorial Golf Tournament.

Through the Lisa Hickson Memorial Golf Tournament and the Lisa Hoebee Hickson Memorial Scholarship we will ensure that Lisa's legacy of helping others will continue for many years to come.
